Speakers’ Masterclass: ‘This is not my Tour’ Workshop

Having previously hosting his ‘Presenters Experience’ Workshop at Curate Space, Andrew Eggelton returns with his new program. The ‘This is not my tour’ workshop, is a 4 hour Presenter’s Masterclass to learn what it takes to be a world class presenter.

About the event

The 4 hours Masterclass would be showcasing what Andrew Eggelton has learned in 2018 and the following:

    • Artistry – Firstly, he will be working with people one on one to highlight examples and tools of his work and unique brand of Presenting.
    • Expansion – Creating our goals only works if you know the person you need to be to reach that goal. I know, it gets deep! Effectively, we’re removing luck and building certainty by designing whom that is. If we want to be a World Class Presenter, and shift thousands of hearts and minds, then we need to know what that looks like. The expansion exercise is becoming a signature part of my training and something I’m experimenting with in workshops over the world.
    • World Class – The first and most significant step you can take towards being a professional Speaker; is a clear understanding of what it really looks and feels like to be World Class. Opportunities are hard fought, so let’s look at what this actually looks like.
    • Value – What is your value on stage? Know what your audience is taking away from your Presenting and how to frame this up at the beginning. By knowing your value, you’ll also be able to look at how to build your Workshops and Programs more effectively.
  • Creating a Speakers Lifestyle – Do you want to know how to monetize speaking gigs? Forget the myth you get paid to speak; it’s all about how you monetize the opportunities.

There are many ways to manage stress and a booming number of wellness apps that help from meditation to remind us to stand up and drink water. Join us for a lunch ‘n’ learn session about how to support yourself along the entrepreneurial journey and set up for success. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Oh, don’t they have an app for that too?

#DIFhub18 Deep Dive – Practical Deep Learning for Healthcare

Artificial intelligence and its practical toolset of machine learning have enormous potential for medical applications. I present two recent projects and extract learnings for hardware and software tools to build and deploy models. The two projects include fully unsupervised clustering for high-content microscopy images and retinal imaging for retinopathy screening. The lessons gleaned from these case studies help scope the dataset requirements, engineering economy, and application feasibility. Emerging from the case studies are a series of recommendations that may constitute best practices for industrial deep learning applied to disparate data sources and applications.

#DIFhub18 Deep Dive: Practical Deep Learning for Healthcare

Artificial intelligence and its practical toolset of machine learning have enormous potential for medical applications. A technical team working on such datasets may seek open source tools and quickly face a myriad of options. I present two recent projects and extract learnings for hardware and software tools to build and deploy models. The two projects include fully unsupervised clustering for high-content microscopy images and retinal imaging for retinopathy screening. Respectively, they investigate novel deep learning approaches for semantic segmentation and application-specific network architectures. Software tools surveyed and used in our projects include NVIDIA DIGITS, BVLC Caffe, NYU Torch7, and Google Tensorflow frameworks.

The lessons gleaned from these case studies help scope the dataset requirements, engineering economy, and application feasibility. Emerging from the case studies are a series of recommendations that may constitute best practices for industrial deep learning applied to disparate data sources and applications.

Speaker: Leo Tam – Software Engineer, NVIDIA

Leo Tam serves as Solutions Architect and Deep Learning Community Manager, part of the NALA-based, World Wide Field Organization (WWFO). He focusses on curating open source tools, advising and architecting solutions for enterprise applications, and contributing to the Deep Learning Institute, which his team established. Leo Tam brings to NVIDIA 10 years of R&D experience, previously as a scientist at Stanford’s School of Medicine. He is a top performer in algorithm’s competitions including placing in the top 3% of a world-wide competition sponsored by the California Healthcare Foundation and second place in a commodities trading competition. Leo holds multiple patents for MRI machine learning and encoding methods developed at the Yale University School of Medicine. Leo earned his BSc in Mathematics – Physics from Brown University and PhD from Yale University.

There is no longer any reason to persist with a representative government designed in a time and for a world that no longer exists.

The legacy system of community decision-making that we’ve dragged into the 21st century has stopped being fit for purpose; it has been gradually eroded to a point where it no longer serves the single purpose for which it was intended.

When: Monday 3rd September 2018, 10 am to 11.30 pm

Location : Curate Space, Level 6, 306 Little Collins Street

A Recording of the session will be made available on demand in the coming days.

In a world of steam trains and telegrams, decentralised democratic options were not feasible – it made sense for the community to defer its decision-making power to an elected representative to enact its will. For the most part, communities are no longer constrained by geographic distance, limited access to information or reduced ability to be heard. There is no need to hand over our self-determination to another in the hope that they will act in our best interests until, years down the track, we have another opportunity to vote to keep or replace them.

MiVote is a community decision-making platform that provides equal, instant access to everyone so that, if they choose, they can make an informed choice, on every issue, every time, and build the future the community wants, together.

The next generation of democracy is here.

Speaker : Adam Jacoby, Democracy Warrior, Chief Steward, Council Member – MiVote

Adam Jacoby is a serial innovator with a twenty-year global history of starting fast growth businesses in sport, information and media. Outspoken and opinionated with a revolutionary bent, he has a Masters of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and has studied at the Judge Business School, Cambridge University. What is the opportunity there for crowdsourcing your content and marketing?

#DIFhub18 Deep Dive – Venue Tech

Technology touches every aspect of venue management. How can technology be integrated throughout the venue to engage and manage, audiences and crew? How has technology changed the audiovisual production process? And what opportunities does this bring to enriching the audience experience? Extending the audience beyond the walls, with the venue serving as a broadcasting production for virtual audiences?

#DIFhub18 Lessons Learned – Creative Tech

Where art extends off the canvas to engage and immerse.

How are visual artists integrating technology to enrich the experience of their work? Drawing on the strengths of both spheres of the brain, how do we honour the creative flow in the technical process?

How does the multidisciplinary process come together? As a collaboration between specialists, or extending our talents across the scope?

Curate Space is the Victorian Government’s Digital Innovation Festival Hub.

We are proud to be partnering with the Victorian Government to deliver a ten day program of events, for audiences in the venue and online via the live stream. We are also the home for the festival team, working from our Festivals and Events Industry Coworking Space.

#DIFHub18

The 2018 DIF Hub will host sessions over 10 days of the festival from Monday 28 August to Friday 7 September 10.00am – 7.30pm at Curate Space in the heart of the Melbourne CBD.
