#DIFhub18 Lunch ‘n’ Learn: What makes a City Smart

Come to explore what the smart city movement is and why it matters. Lorraine will discuss the trends, the role of the citizen and government, emerging technologies and why it’s important to apply technology thoughtfully. Lorraine will also share with us her learnings in establishing CityLab – City of Melbourne’s innovation lab and the key ingredients for a smart city.

Speaker: Lorraine Tighe

Lorraine Tighe has worked in IT transformation for over 20 years, across banking, shipping and logistics, and government sectors here and in Ireland.

She moved into the Smart City space in 2012 where she worked with the City of Melbourne to build Melbourne’s smart city foundations. Lorraine led a number of strategic initiatives to enhance Melbourne’s reputation as a smart city, including open data, city Wi-Fi, IoT trials and the IBM Smarter Cities Challenge. A proud achievement was establishing CityLab, City of Melbourne’s innovation lab. CityLab uses a human-centred approach to prototype and tests new ideas with the community. She is passionate when connecting people, ideas and technology to drive positive inclusive change.

Lorraine is currently assisting other councils with their ‘smart’ approaches and capability and believes in sharing her knowledge and experience and promoting diversity in tech. She is asked regularly to judge many emerging tech and innovation events and share her experience and insights as a keynote speaker and panellist.

Lorraine is on the Smart Cities Council Policy and Leadership Taskforce, holds a Higher Diploma in Systems Analysis, a Bachelor of Business, and has studied Strategic Foresight and Innovation Management through Swinburne executive education.

Curate Space is the Victorian Government’s Digital Innovation Festival Hub.

We are proud to be partnering with the Victorian Government to deliver a ten day program of events, for audiences in the venue and online on-demand. We are also the home for the festival team, working from our Festivals and Events Industry Coworking Space.

The 2018 DIF Hub will host sessions over 10 days of the festival from Monday 28 August to Friday 7 September 10.00am – 7.30pm at Curate Space in the heart of the Melbourne CBD.
